A west Georgian comic song with solo and duet verses, and refrain sung by the entire chorus. The song is in Megrelian (one of the three major Georgian languages ) and is usually accompanied by a 'chonguri', the four-stringed Georgian lute. The exclamation, "Sisa!" means "Shoo!"
Wife:
What do you want in the hen coop, you sly little Jackal?
Do not anger God! Do not steal my hens!
Shoo, shoo, get out, Jackal!
Now where is that confounded dog Mura?
Husband:
The hens and roosters are all in the yard!
The door is left open!
Ah, the devil take you! Get out of my sight!
What are you laughing at?
Jackal:
Don't be angry with me, mistress!
I see that you have a lot of chickens—I'll take a couple along!
Like an orphan, I roam through the woods
I have no mother, no father, I am hungry!
I have eaten nothing since yesterday.
Dog:
It's a lie, it's a lie!
The little Jackal is nearby!
Do not be angry with me for taking him in!
