about

Re dibini is a very popular folk song. Many choirs perform Re dibini as an “entrance song," singing it as they process onto stage for concerts and competitions.

When your choir sings Re dibini, you should use the name of your own choir or school or city instead of ours. Our singers are members of Chicago Children’s Choir (CCC), but we didn’t think “Re dibini tsa CCC” sounded very good, so we used “Chicago” instead. You can take a bit of liberty with the song's rhythm as needed to make your school/choir’s name fit into the song.

There are a number of South African songs that have a breakdown section where each voice-part introduces itself. This section should be sung as a friendly competition in which the voice-parts show off to see which is the strongest.

We are always amused when the basses try to introduce themselves in Re dibini, only to be cut off by the sopranos (who jump in with a return to re re dumelang) before the basses can even say baraton. Your singers should have fun with this section.

We are the dancers/singers from Chicago
We have come here
to entertain you
We say, "Greetings!"
Here are the sopranos/altos/tenors/baritones
